As part of the CMS experiment several petabytes of measurement and simulation data are generated annually, which is processed using the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid (WLCG). In Aachen, one of these globally networked data centers of the WLCG is located. The Institute IIIB operates together with the institutes IB and IIIA a so-called Tier-2 and Tier-3 center for the CMS experiment in Aachen.

The Grid computer cluster in Aachen currently produces around 5,200 CPU cores and more than 3.0 petabytes of disk space available. This primary cluster for the CMS experiment is used. In addition, part of the cluster is the Auger experiments and Icecube available.

The operation is carried out by a team of people who can be contacted in case of problems and questions via .

General instructions for the use of all German CMS grid centers and special notes about the resources in Aachen are within CERN-CMS-Wiki. The current status can be also considered.
